The Buddhist Centre Dartford is located in St Alban’s Hall, St Alban’s Road, Dartford. The Medicine Buddha Centre belongs to the Medicine Buddha Foundation, a non-profit charity organised to help spread Medicine Buddha teachings according to the Sutra, as cures for the ills and sufferings in our world.

In fact, the Medicine Buddha Foundation has been providing spiritual and non-spiritual services to the Buddhist community since 2002. It is also the only Vietnamese Buddhist temple in the greater London area.

The Buddha of healing and medicine in Mahāyāna Buddhism. It is commonly referred to as the “Medicine Buddha”, is described as a doctor who cures dukkha (suffering) using the medicine of his teachings.

So, images depicting the Medicine Buddha show his left hand typically holding a blooming myrobalan plant. Buddhist medicine recognises three basic types of illness. They are the root causes of the conflicting emotions of passion, aggression, and ignorance. Myrobalan is the only herb in the Buddhist pharmacopoeia that can aid in healing each of these three types of diseases.

The Teachings of the Buddha

This foundation is not intended to promote the religious creed of Buddhism, but to spread the humanistic teachings of Buddha who once lived on this planet. Lord Buddha was a human being, who through perseverance and constant practice, achieved enlightenment approximately two thousand five hundred years ago. Buddha means “The Awakened One”.

In addition, what Buddha taught was a series of lessons for regular people to become better human beings, through selflessness, compassion, and wisdom. Similar teachings have been transmitted in a variety of religions.

The centre also runs Shaolin Xiu Masters, Kung Fu classes and training on Sundays. The children’s classes are scheduled from 7:00 AM- 8:00 AM and the adult classes are from 8:15 AM – 9:45 AM.
